This past week was the first in our respective locations, and it was a whirlwind to say the least. Now that the dust has settled, we are finally getting into a groove and setting up new routines. My colleague and I have relocated to Davenport, Iowa to work in the Oscar Mayer plant.
The first week has been full of technical training on how the meat is produced. It’s been overwhelming at times, but consistently the management at the plant has been organized and extremely helpful in supporting our learning. The entire team from operators to managers are working together to take us under their wings as they train us. The operators are so experienced and skilled—it has blown our minds! They have been an inspiration to us during this first week, especially with how open they have been in sharing information about their daily responsibilities. I was a little nervous coming into the plant where I will eventually move into a Production Supervisor role, but after just a week working with the team, it has become clear that this is an environment that I know I can thrive in. There are few places where you can work with such a unique workforce and support each other to meet the same goals.
