This is my sixth week working and living in Springfield, MO. The Springfield plant makes a wide variety of products like KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese, VELVEETA Shells & Cheese, natural cheeses, KRAFT Singles, and many, many more! My experience at the plant has been fantastic so far! Much of my time has been dedicated to an in depth immersion of all of the functions at the plant such as production, quality, finance, and materials/logistics. The immersion into each function has helped me to understand not only how the plant functions as a whole but also how each function works together and will help me in my role as a production supervisor. I now have a better understanding about what situations I might encounter day to day as a supervisor and how they are typically handled.
I have also spent a lot of time working on my Lean Six Sigma yellow belt project. This has consisted of collecting relevant information by talking to operators, supervisors, and anyone else who might have knowledge or have an impact on the project as well as observing production to see how things run day to day. It has really astounded me how welcoming and helpful everyone here has been. Everyone has a really awesome story and cares a lot about the products we make. The people made the transition to this new location really easy and thoroughly enjoyable.
Outside of work I have finally been able to get back into a routine of going to the gym. This has been a very good thing for me since there are so many great places to eat in the area. I have also taken advantage of the great weather and all of the awesome hiking trails in and around Springfield! There are a lot of activities in the area that I am looking forward to. Hopefully soon I will be able to go to the amusement park in Branson or one of the concerts in the city.
Overall, I have had a great experience moving to a new city and entering my new role as a production supervisor. Everyone at the plant has been so welcoming and helpful. As great as Springfield is I am very much looking forward to going back to Chicago to reconnect with all of the other trainees during our Entrepreneurship and Leadership weeks in a couple of weeks!
