Sales Management Trainee Program Week 18 2016

Working as a trainee on a major retailer team continues to bring new challenges every day. Over the past few weeks, I have been working on my forecasting project while also completing many essential day-to-day tasks. These daily tasks are developing my foundational knowledge of our internal and external systems, reports, and strategy. This has also been a great time to reconnect with my team after our 10 day trip to Chicago.

One highlight I will share is a one-on-one lunch I had with my manager. During this hour we were able to connect on both my professional development as well as on a personal level. From this lunch meeting, I was given feedback on my performance, we discussed questions or issues I had, and were able to establish further growth opportunities. I truly appreciated the time my manager spent with me, as it showed that she is invested in me as a professional and as a person.

My final update from Tampa is that after a few months of getting comfortable within the sales organization, I will be going to my first customer meeting later this week for our monthly meat and cheese review. Not only will I gain experience in how to conduct a customer meeting, but will also be able to establish a face-to-face relationship with our buyer. This will serve me well as I continue to transition into a Category Manager role over the next few months.
