Our training this week was focused on the Marketing business function. On the first day, we learned about the different roles within marketing and looked at some of the biggest brands within our portfolio. Not only did we take a deep dive into the different business units, but we also learned about how important foodservice marketing is within the company. To further develop our analytical skills, we completed a week-long case study analyzing the Cheese market and received training on pulling data.
Aside from classroom learning, the highlight of this week was an out-of-classroom activity. For the activity, each group was given a different consumer profile and a weekly budget. We then went into the city to different grocery stores and created a week-long meal plan according to the consumer’s budget and needs. It was insightful walking in the consumer’s shoes for this activity because it allowed us to experience some of the struggles and trade-offs associated with budget and other constraints.
One of the most exciting parts of this week was when we did a fun team building event. As a team, we had to work together and solve the clues given to us. Although we only had one hour and were delayed many times by the zombie that was trying to catch us, we all escaped! Next week we’ll be diving into our last business function—Operations!
