My name is Tony Muscat; I am a rising senior at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and am working in Fort Myers, Florida at Kraft Heinz’s BAGEL BITES factory! I spent the second week of my internship working with the plant’s production team. As production is the basis of my project, my time has been extremely insightful. I was surprised by the subtle quirks and differences in our three production lines; although each line uses the same equipment, no two lines act the same! Outside of work, Fort Myers has much to offer. I enjoy hiking, swimming, and fishing and have relished getting to explore the city’s history, neat downtown area, and many malls. Thus far, the beaches surrounding the city have been my go-to weekend destinations, but I intend to visit more of Southern Florida in the coming weeks. I can’t wait for the rest of the summer and to make memories that will last a lifetime!
Hi everyone! My name is Courtney Capel and I am an Industrial and Systems Engineering student at The Ohio State University. This summer I am working as a Manufacturing Management Intern at a Foodservice plant in Irvine, California. One thing that surprised me is that our plant works with over 400 ingredients. Managing these ingredients is a difficult task because all items have an expiration date. My project this summer is associated with inventory management and ingredient tracking in order to reduce waste at the plant. I like that I am able to work with management from all sides of the business in addition to the materials department. In my free time, I have been exploring all California has to offer. Laguna Beach, Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Newport Beach are some of my favorite spots I’ve gotten the chance to see. The 35-hour drive from Ohio to California was well worth it and I look forward to exploring the West Coast throughout the rest of summer!
