Hey everyone! It’s Daniel Podolsky tuning in to this week’s Trainee blog post. I’m a recent graduate from Washington University in St. Louis, where I majored in Finance and Operations/Supply Chain Management. I also had experience owning and operating a small storage, shipping, and rental appliance company for the past 3 years, which taught me a lot. Currently, it’s the third week of training and we are diving deep into finance.
At the start of the week we got an overview of finance at Kraft Heinz and learned how to navigate and develop a P&L. This shed some light onto how Kraft Heinz works as a company and onto some of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) we care about. Throughout the rest of the week we learned about category finance, revenue management, accounting, insurance, treasury, and many other functions. We also got the opportunity to have great leaders within the finance space come speak to us. This is one of my personal favorite aspects of the trainee program. I am always learning and taking away so much. In addition, we conducted several case studies that challenged our critical thinking and analytical skills.
We wrapped the week up on Wednesday and got ready to celebrate for the long 4th of July weekend. My roommates, who are fellow trainees, and I went to Cape Cod for the weekend, while other trainees stayed in Chicago and had a great time at the beach. All and all, it was an amazing week and I couldn’t have asked to spend the 4th of July with anyone else (except maybe the rest of the trainees 😊).
